Implants are titanium structures that are essentially artificial tooth roots. They are surgically placed and anchored to the jawbone. Crowns, bridges, partial dentures or complete dentures can be attached providing very stable tooth replacement.
In most cases a candidate for an implant must be healthy, have good oral hygiene, good bone density, and a good immune system. Implants are surgically placed and usually require a four to six week healing period to allow the implant to fuse the bone. Following the healing period an artificial tooth, bridge, or removable denture can be attached to the implant. Like any restoration implants require meticulous oral hygiene to ensure they last a long time.
